'''Professional Casting System''' vacuum casting machine (Formerly Arbe "Kaya-Cast").  Used for evacuating air bubbles from mixtures of investment and applying a vacuum to porous investment molds during metal pouring.  It enables very precise casting of fine jewelry using the standardized molding flasks in the shop, and optionally some others.  The mold is preheated to 900-1100 F and pressed onto a graphite vacuum seal.  The vacuum draws air out through the wall of the mold forcing the molten metal into the mold cavity with the pressure of the outside atmosphere.
'''The Vacuum Table''' is used to create a vacuum for two parts of the investment casting process:
— The degassing of freshly mixed investment.

This tool is conventionally used along with the Electromelt furnace, and so they are reserved at the same time.  Additionally it is used during the investing stage, though it is only used intermittently for that.
— The vacuum assisted pour of molten metal.

You must be tool-tested in the shop and work with a "buddy" in the casting shop when you use this tool along with the Electromelt. Although this tool is not hot by itself, it is often used with hot tools, and so gloves and eye protection are usually required.

Use of this tool in both casting and investing functions is discussed in the lost wax class handout located here:
