2024 Election Vote Counting

Technical information about this style of vote counting is at http://rwinters.com/elections/supplement.htm

Board of Directors

There were 72 votes cast for Board of Directors and there are 2 seats open. The “quota” or “number of votes that a candidate needs to be elected” is

floor(total_votes / (number_of_seats + 1)) + 1 = 72 / 3 + 1 = 25

The first round counts all of the #1 rank votes, resulting in:

50 Michael
17 Jack
5 Bill

Michael has more than the quota so is elected. He has 25 surplus votes (50 - quota = 50 - 25 = 25). So 25 ballots are randomly selected from his pile and distributed to their #2 choices. This gave Jack 17 more votes and Bill 8 more, resulting in:

17 + 17 = 34 Jack
5 + 8 = 13 Bill

Jack has crossed the quota and is elected to the second and final seat.

There were a few write-in votes at lower ranks, but they didn’t figure into the counting.

Member Liaison

There were 71 votes cast for Member Liaison. The quota is floor(71/2) + 1 = 36.

The first round counts all of the #1 rank votes, resulting in:

45 Tom
26 Art

Tom has more than the quota, so he is elected, and that concludes the counting.

There were a few write-in votes at lower ranks, but they didn’t figure into the counting.
