A2 Gallery Panel Charter

Mission Statement

Gallery A2 fosters connections between Artisans Asylum and the Greater Boston Arts community through gallery exhibitions and holistic programming. The gallery showcases innovation and excellence in fabrication, craft, and aesthetics — manifesting the potential of A2 with expansive programming built around the artist’s skills as a maker and educator. Gallery A2 exhibits creative practitioners whose work and studio practices fall within Artisans’ maker ecosystem.

Purpose

The gallery panel (GP) at A2 exists as a volunteer member-led body. This group will establish the vision, carry out and manage the A2 member gallery shows. The group will be the core labor-force for the operation of the A2 gallery.

Membership

The GP shall have a minimum of 5 members and a maximum of 7 members. To be considered for the GP someone must be in good standing as a member of A2. GP members will serve for a 2-year term. A majority of the GP can vote a member out of the panel at any time without cause.

Voting

The gallery lead acts as the chair of the gallery panel, they do not have voting privileges, and as such does not count towards the total persons. Only in the event of a tied vote, the Gallery Lead would be responsible for casting a tie-breaking vote.

Roles

The GP has the authority to shape its working roles. A majority of the members must approve of a new role, and its definition. Responsibilities overlap greatly and are shared between Panel members. It is an essential requirement for Panel members to collaborate and support each other in all gallery operations. Secretary (Currently Vacant) – Responsible for note taking, scheduling of meetings, and disseminating assigned tasks, as well as other tasks as assigned by GP.

  • Bookkeeper (Currently Rae Occhipinti) – Responsible for receipts, purchases, divvy card, as well as other tasks as assigned by GP.
  • Art Handlers/ Preparators (Currently Sarah Nagle) – Responsible for the physical gallery space. Installing/ Deinstalling shows, upkeep of gallery, other tasks as assigned by GP.
  • Marketing Production (Currently Troy Wade) – Content and media prep, data and metric tracking.
  • Event Planning/Production (Currently Hope Zimmerman) – Coordination of roles/tasks for events- catering, music/entertainment, volunteer tasks, etc.
  • Creative Direction (Currently Dara Morgenstern) – Designs Gallery A2 visual identity, maintains integrity and consistency of gallery visual identity.
  • Editorial Direction (Currently Jules Heck) – Guides and copy edits texts and other media ensuring a consistent Gallery A2 voice.

Election

The Gallery Panel will be an elected body by popular vote of the A2 members. Members can serve up to two consecutive terms. Elections will be every two years.

Responsibilities

A2 member shows will be curated, organized, and implemented by the GP with mentorship by the gallery lead. The themes and jury process will be chosen by the GP and advertised to the A2 community for participation.

Meetings

The chair shall preside over the meeting of the panel and shall set the agenda. In the absence of the Chair, the co-chair will preside. The Panel will meet once monthly and more often as needed for workshops, installations, events etc. Meeting of the panel may be held in-person or teleconference; at such time as the panel determines. A majority of the panel members shall constitute a quorum. The chair, or a majority of the panel, can invite any person who isn’t a member of the panel to attend a meeting, but these individuals have no voting power.

Reports/ Evaluation

Once a year the GP will provide Artisan's Asylum a report about the functioning of the Gallery, including audience numbers, engagement, member feedback, and other metrics as decided by the GP.
