Content Moderation

From Artisans Asylum Wiki

The A2 wiki working group has created this moderation policy to attempt to balance the accuracy of information on the wiki with the objective of keeping the wiki as open and freely editable as possible.

Guiding Principles

  • Wikis are inherently designed to be completely visible to the public or completely private. Complex systems of tiered privileges are antithetical to the design and philosophical stance of wiki-based information and are generally unsupported or completely unavailable on this platform.
  • Makerspace wikis are generally completely readable by the public, and editable by anyone with a wiki account.
  • Rule zero – don’t make us make a rule – applies.

Policy statements

  • The A2 wiki is readable by the general public and editable by A2 members. Consider other information repositories for sensitive information.
  • Deleting articles:
    • It is preferable to archive articles or categorize them as outdated rather than deleting them entirely.
    • When deleting articles, provide a succinct reason.
    • Deletions should be done by administrators only and as a last resort. Deletion requests should be submitted to A2 staff.
  • Protecting articles:
    • Shop leads and A2 staff can protect articles within their purview from editing for any reason.
    • Wiki administrators and A2 staff can also protect articles to halt edit wars. Edit wars should be escalated to wiki administration and A2 staff for resolution.
  • Content moderation:
    • Wiki content is not actively moderated.
    • Users should ensure the accuracy of their contributions to the best of their ability.
    • User pages should be used for personal notes or draft content.
