Description
Pressure relief |
This is a 12-ton hydraulic "bottle" jack mounted to a steel frame so it can be used as a press. The pressure relief valve is located on the press base. This machine is generally used for bending sheets and bars, and it usually has a 4" wide right-angle bending tool and die set mounted. The opening in the frame is 16" wide.
Use for:
- Bending steel sheets and bars up to 1/8" thick
Do not use for:
- High-carbon or Hardened steel
- Round or square stock
Safety Hazards
Eye protection required! | ||
---|---|---|
- Workpiece can unexpectedly snap
- Pinching injuries
- Cuts/scrapes from sharp edges and burrs
Bending
- Mark your workpiece with a clearly visible line.
Bend |
Square |
Mark |
- Insert the workpiece into the jig and lower the workpiece so it lightly loads.
- Square the workpiece in the tool.
- Pump up the pressure to bend the workpiece.
- Check the angle with a square as the bend approaches 90°. If you squeeze too far, the bend can surpass 90°.

The bending tool is press-fit onto the ram below the bottle jack. It can be positioned at any angle, but the two most useful orientations are shown here: longitudinal and transverse.
To remove the tool, hit it with a "dead-blow" hammer with a soft head until it lossens up and comes off. Reposition, and press it onto the ram using the press.
